It’s here! The days of trekking around in heavy wool coats are indeed starting to trail behind us, and now we can finally reach into our spring wardrobes for something that won’t leave us sweating bullets on the tube. But what happens if you look into said wardrobe and you are utterly uninspired with your options? We put together a wide array of jackets, all featuring the one thing that we think everyone needs this season… the denim jacket.
The Classic

Why You Need One: A spring go-to for generations of women, the classic denim jacket offers a crisp and clean look of the upmost versatility. For a cropped option, All Saints has a gorgeous boxy yet not overbearing cropped jacket that is the perfect shape and color of a classic jacket. Looking for a more 90’s option? This faded medium wash number from the denim experts at Madewell will have you jamming to TLC in no time. If you want the ultimate classic denim jacket, look no further than the Gap 1969 Denim Jacket, whose size and style echo the jackets from generations before it.
How To Style: We love this type jacket because it can be matched with just about every color and style of clothes. Some of our favorite looks are a crisp striped tee and any colored pants, leggings if you are feeling comfy, or even jeans for the ultimate weekend look, or for a beachy vibe, a maxi dress or jumpsuit is the ideal match. Want to go all out with your denim look? The classic jean jacket make is a perfect style to rock denim on denim, or more lovingly referred to as the Canadian tuxedo. Talk about fashionable, eh?
The Retro Remake

Why You Need One: With festival season just a flash-tatted arm’s reach away, nothing brings us back to the joys of hippies and concerts quite like patchwork jackets. We love this style for its’s playful nature and ability of complete personalization. Sure you can buy an already patchworked jacket, but this trend also inspires the DIY in us to give iron on’s another chance. So find an old jacket or get one from the high street, then pop over to the craft store for a fun activity that will leave you with a unique and on trend creation. We love these two from After Party Vintage and Topshop.
How To Style: Patchwork jackets are great because you can use the not only the color of the denim, but the colors from the patches to coordinate your outfit to basically any piece of clothing. If you want the epitome of hippie chic, pair your patchwork jacket with a suede skirt or shorts, sending you straight back to the Woodstock days. Spring dresses are often hard transition pieces, but with the help of a substantial denim jacket for warmth, you can whip out those breezy dresses a bit sooner in the season.
The Boyfriend

Why You Need One: What we predict to be the new “classic” denim jacket in just a few years, the boyfriend style jean jacket is just as versatile and even more comfortable than the old tailored favorite. Available in a variety of washes and wears (distressed, crisp, they have it all), boyfriend jackets are the ideal comfort jacket that makes you feel wrapped up wherever you are. Two of our favorites are this lighter wash make from Madewell and a dark wash oversized bomber style from Waven.
How To Style: Our favorite way to style this look is to go full-on comfy casual, pairing the jacket with Adidas, leggings and logo tee. An unexpected way to style this type of jacket is draped over shoulders in the ever-so-current cape fashion and pair it with floral pieces for a gorgeous masculine/feminine balance.
The Standout

Why You Need One: Tired of the typical styles and colors of denim? We pulled together some unique yet on trend pieces that are sure to bring a bit more life into your denim wardrobe. Kimono styles have been all the rage recently, and denim jackets have been no exception. A traditional take on the kimono complete with wide sleeves and floral print comes, MiH Jeans creates a jean jacket sure to stand out form the crowds. More of a modern take on the kimono style, wrap jackets are another trendy way to mix up your denim collection. One of our favorite wrap jackets is from Gap. Want a smarter look? Part blazer, part oversized jacket, this piece from Vila is one of our fave spring looks by far.
How To Style: With these distinctive pieces, one has to be careful not to overpower the look with too much addition denim (no Canadian tuxedos here ladies). We quite like these dressed in a smart style, with a pair sleek black pants and a flowy white button down. Soft white tanks and pastels are also great to couple with these jackets and will also brighten up your wardrobe for spring.
Whether it’s renewing an old classic or venturing into the new age of outerwear, denim jackets are THE staple piece that we reckon everyone needs.
