Dry brushing can be very beneficial for improving your blood circulation, renewing your skin cells, stimulating lymph drainage, and unclogging pores. All of these benefits make your skin smoother and help to reduce unwanted cellulite.
If you are ready to get on board, here’s what you do:
Just before your morning shower, you should gently rub the brush across the skin towards your heart. You’re not trying to break the skin here. Be sure that you don’t make it red. It is okay for the skin to have a pink tint, but if you make it red, you are brushing too hard. The bristles in the brush are an obvious exfoliant, so it can be done all over, but it is important to focus on the feet, the backs of the knees, the thighs, the hips, the chest, underarm, and at the elbow. No one wants unwanted toxins in their body, and this stimulation helps the lymph nodes drain the toxins they collect.
After brushing, you’ll shower as normal. Be sure to moisturise the skin with an oil or lotion afterwards.
The small handheld brush (£6.50) would be easy to hold and use, but you might prefer the long handled brush (£10) better for getting to those hard to reach spots. With consistent daily use, the exfoliation and better circulation should make your skin glowy and smooth in just a few weeks.
If you saw the new BBC documentary, The Truth about Looking Good, Cherry Healey leads an investigation into the best tool to fight cellulite. She and 25 volunteers test out exercise, cellulite creams, and dry brushing to see which group has the best improvement on the looks of their cellulite. Those who used dry brushing came out on top.
If you haven’t gotten on board with dry brushing just yet, there is no better time to start.
