First look at the much anticipated trailer of Widows from Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and co-writer author, Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”), comes a modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption: “Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities.
I saw this film open the London Film Festival and it didn’t disappoint, it was a face paced thriller with a fantastic cast. The festival was high on women in film this year and Widows was the perfect tone to set, a group of kick-ass women taking charge and calling the shots against a backdrop of male bullies.
Steve McQueen has done it again, he makes exciting films that make us look at the world we live in without all the gloss of Hollywood. Viola Davis is brilliant, Elizabeth Debicki is also great, my only criticism would be that Michelle Rodriguez showed the same expression throughout the film. That didn’t detract from it being a must-see for all action and heist movies, put it on your list.
Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. “Widows” also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya and Brian Tyree Henry.
We are big fans of McQueen and Viola Davis and this looks like a good one, see the trailer here:
