It seemed Londoners had gone mad yesterday on what was named the most miserable day of the year. With everyone trying to “beat the Monday Blues”, we too were looking to lift our spirits and went to Young’s House of Happiness in Finch’s pub.
Located a short walk from Liverpool Street, the House of Happiness was the place to be on Monday night. Walking into the pub, the happiness and relaxation begins. They had a shoe polishing station where you can leave your shoes at the front door, pop on a pair of slippers and make yourself at home. We recommend this to begin your relaxation because according to Young’s 33.2% of us are most happy in our pyjamas and slippers, and I have to say I definitely agree!
The pub was buzzing and though we normally think of pubs as a friendly place to be, there was something even more cosy about it last night. Besides being able to grab a pint or glass of wine, everyone in the place was holding a warm cup of tea and saucer so I think that was it. There was even a tea blending station where you can brew up your own cuppa – the world of tea was our oyster.
At the back of the pub you can enjoy a selection of board games, there was even a letter writing station where you could let you creativity flow and pop your letter in a small red mail box, it was a fab opportunity to stop and be mindful. Downstairs, the basement was transformed into a relaxation den with complimentary massages it was a blissful moment of British Hygge.
We then ate our way to happiness. Wild boar sausage rolls, chunky chips and slow cooked beef stew; the menu was nothing short of hearty, home cooked goodness and the portions were very generous too with meals starting at two for £20 – the perfect antidote to a cold winter’s evening. We then ended our night with Laughology session with comedian, Dave Keeling, who in no time had us in stitches.
We had a wonderful evening and although we didn’t end up finding a tenner in the back pocket of our jeans – which Young’s say accounts for the happiness of 52% of us – it’s safe to say the House of Happiness left us feeling just that… Happy!
