The Sundance Film Festival takes place annually in Park City, Utah, USA. Put on by the Sundance Institute, it is the largest independent film festival in the United States. This year the festival runs from 19 January-29 January. Sundance boasts over 100 different independent films, ranging in genres and style. Although not in the mainstream, celebrities seem to flock to these independent films, perhaps in need of a break from the formulaic rom-coms or over-scripted horror films.
Noteworthy names include: Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis in Colossal; Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck in A Ghost Story; Alison Brie, David Franco, Aubrey Plaza, John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon in The Little Hours; Michael Cera and Abbi Jacobson in Person to Person; Jennifer Anniston in The Yellow Birds; Emily Browning, Adam Horovitz, Mary-Louise Parker, Lily Rabe, Jason Schwartzman, Chloë Sevigny in Golden Exits; and Cate Blanchett in Manifesto. These are just a few of the star-studded films being featured this year.
The festival hosts over 40,000 guests at three different locations; Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Mountain Resort. This year marks the 29th annual Sundance Film Festival.
