UA Record – Launching this week, UA Record is the new fitness app by lifestyle brand Under Armour, for which the likes of Gisele Bundchen, ballerina Misty Copeland and tennis player Sloane Stephens are ambassadors. With UA Record you track your steps, calories, heart rate, sleep and weight. The app can interlink with third party devices and apps that you may already have, like Garmin or MyFitnessPal, even Facebook. You can add friends and set fitness challenges to boot. You can follow other users of the app. And if Gisele’s doing it….!

Fitocracy – Fitocracy’s all about motivation. You’ll be able to select your type of training and connect with other users that are focusing on the same type. You can encourage others and they can cheer you on too. Every time you complete your workout you’re awarded points, and on reaching various milestones you are taken up another level. Between the social and gaming side of this app, you’ll have all the encouragement you need to keep you going!

Couch to 5K – The Couch to 5K app is based on the NHS programme and was devised by some-time runner Josh Clark for his mother who hadn’t done any exercise for a good long time. The app acts as a first step and promises to guide exercise newbies through to running a 5k in nine weeks. The programme is easy to follow and motivating.

Hot5 – The clue’s in the title, this app is made up of oodles of training videos that are all just five minutes long. Ever heard someone complain that they have no time for exercise? Pop them a link to this little gem. You can choose from abs and core, butt and legs, cardio and agility, yoga and flexibility and muscle and strength. Anything you want to target you can, and quickly.

7 Minute Power Plank Workout – You’ve heard of the 7 Minute Workout app, well now it’s all about the plank. The benefits of planking are renowned, but its always helpful to have someone there making you hold the position for longer. This app is your plank trainer. Engage your core and work those muscles with this dinky time-compact trainer.
