Does Chanel No.5 smell too much like your mum or grandma? Chanel Chance remind you of high school? Well get excited because Chanel’s newest scent is about to break down perfume barriers.
Boy Chanel, the newest addition to Chanel’s Les Exclusifs range was created by Olivier Polge, whose father was Chanel’s in-house fragrance creator from 1978 to 2013. The inspiration behind the scent as well as the name of the perfume was after Coco Chanel’s lover and benefactor Arthur “Boy” Capel, of which Olivier had known about through his father’s stories as well as personal research through archives and books on the subject. This knowledge of Chanel’s history clearly benefited Polge as he focused on the Chanel mindset of making traditional masculine aesthetic’s feminine just as Coco did all those years before.
Boy Chanel aims not to be a “unisex” scent, but rather to show how well masculine scents can be worn on a woman. Fresh and aromatic, lavender with rose geranium grown in France mixes with coumarin, moss, lemon and grapefruit zest, as well as notes of rose, orange blossom, sandalwood, vanilla and musk. Meant to target those who are “looking for unexpected scents”, Boy Chanel is sure to be a scent to look out for come June, and we are so excited to see if we can pull this fragrance off ourselves.
Boy Chanel debuts this week in Paris, and is set for further release in June 2016, 75ml and 200ml bottles will be sold for £138 and £253 at current exchange rates.
