Quiet, insanely talented, and often described as having “it,” FKA Twigs is a skillful singer, dancer, and director. Yet, to her choosing, she has flown relatively under the radar. She doesn’t like being profiled, so her recent interview with Allure magazine is a rare treat for fans of the Gloucestershire born 28 year-old…
In the interview, the writer used words like “eerie”, “odd”, and that her vibe is indescribable. She takes long pauses before answering questions, and asks many of her own queries as well. She’s weary of publications and what they might say of her, so she takes thoughtful consideration in her answers. Her recent engagement to Robert Pattinson has thrust her into a somewhat unwanted limelight, therefore making her an even more cautious person than she already was. Her music career has been a slow build, starting by releasing 3 EPs, followed by her first album LP1 (nominated for a Grammy Award and received positive reviews). Part of her stage name, Twigs, originates from the way her joints sound when she moves.
FKA Twigs is a master of her own creativity. She likes to be in charge of every single aspect of her life and career commenting “Imagine you’re an artist that didn’t know how to do your own makeup, didn’t know how to do your own hair, didn’t know how to put an outfit together, didn’t direct your own videos, didn’t produce your own music. They’re not artists. They are vehicles, vessels.” Her smart attitude has helped her be in charge and make all her own decision about music videos and more, a rarity in the industry.
Not just singing, either, she is the face of a Calvin Klein campaign. Her natural beauty seems more than enough, as she struggled to come up with beauty tips for others than simply suggesting “more sleep” and that she has just learned about facials. Her former years training as a ballerina have given her the grace and dexterity to be envied by all.
Many things are still to come for the young talent. Whether she wants to explore singing, directing, or other avenues more she does not know. “I don’t want to be described as anything” she comments. Undefined and infinite possibilities make FKA Twigs one of our favorites to watch.
