For the past 10 years, Aveda has been shining a light the need for water around the world, and have raised over $38 million through salons, Experience Centers, Institutes, and guest contributions. This year during Earth Month Aveda has brought back their Light The Way candle, of which they will donate 100% of the profits to the Global Greengrants Fund– a non-profit organization that “channels high impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve environmental problems all around the world” and support hundreds of water projects.
Since it’s release in 2007, Aveda’s Light The Way candle has raised over $11 million for clean water, talk about philanthropic! Each candle purchase can help to provide six months of clean drinking water for a family of six in India. All of this isn’t even mentioning the candle itself. Set in a 100% reclaimed glass beverage bottle and filled with 100% certified organic essential oils and naturally derived soy wax, the Light The Way candle burns cleanly, and with a clean conscience. Ginger and ginger lily offer up the signature warm and spicy aroma, and are organically sourced from Umbari, India. Aveda is so connected to this project that where when suppliers’ were experiencing water shortages and contaminations, Aveda partnered with Global Greengrants on a local NGO Award and ensured safe, clean drinking water to families in Umbari.
Even the packaging has a story. This year the candle’s box is decorated by designs inspired from Indian children’s artwork from one of the locations where Global Greengrants Fund helped provide water.
Earth Month is a time for reflection on just how precious our planet is, and with over 70% of the Earth’s surface covered in water, it only makes sense to start there. Clean water should not have to be a struggle for any person to receive, and with Aveda lighting the way on providing drinking water for communities around the world, it doesn’t hurt to help and get a candle while you’re at it.
