I have been a fan of Charlotte Tilbury, make-up artist extraordinaire and creator of some wonderful colour palettes for some time. I have been a particular fan of her lipsticks which are wonderfully hydrating and the most perfect colour tone.
It’s hard to resist the buzz of her counter at Selfridges. I heard great things about her Light Wonder Youth Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation (£32.00).
Tilbury herself claims that she has ‘created the holy grail of foundations. An air light formula with wonder powers. It illuminates, smooths, hydrates, minimises pores and reduces wrinkles for perfect skins.’ How could I resist that?
I tried a few colours and went for No 3 but could have easily done 4, as the difference between them is subtle.
I was happy with the colour and I was happy with the way it swept over my face and looked effortless. It was quite glowy. I didn’t notice any pore minimalising or wrinkle removal. What I did notice was that about an hour after I’d applied it it seemed to have evaporated.

I don’t really like the idea that in the middle of the day I have to start reapplying foundation. Do you apply it on top of blusher and lipstick or take everything off and start again? Both ways is a bore.
But as I was happy with the colour and the glow I wasn’t too upset. Tilbury advises on her website that you can use her foundation for your body as well to even out imperfections, applying it to legs, arms, and décolletage.
As it had cost £32 that seemed a little much for leg foundation. I did apply it to décolletage and it disappeared to great alacrity. Then after about a month, the Wonder product had curdled. I’d shake it to see if that would help re-blend it, but all to no avail. Out would come a translucent watery substance, and then blobs of thickened colour.
Perhaps La Tilbury expects we will be using it all over our body and it will only last a week. Thoroughly disappointing and not the Holy Grail.
