It’s time for our Favourite Five and this time it’s all about essential apps for summer. Essential free apps that is. These are the ones we’ll be downloading, the ones we’ll be using to make the most of our summer of 2014. Here’s the lowdown.

So Wahanda have launched an app. That’s pretty exciting! The Wahanda App (Free) lets you search for beauty services and will go so far as doing so by location. Let’s set the scene. You’re inbetween meetings at work and all of a sudden a must-attend event invite rears its darling little head. You have to go. But what about your hair, your nails?! You have a blind panic for a mere couple of seconds before you remember the magic that is the Wahanda app. With a few clicks you can find the perfect location for your grooming needs, and book in there and then. We’ve already tried and tested this one, and we’re huge fans. It’s also perfect for discovering secret little gems around you that you may never have happened upon otherwise!

We all know how important keeping on top of your SPF is over summer, and another way of lessening the risk of skin cancer is to keep a track of any moles, or beauty spots, as I like to call them. The brains behind Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies have come up with an app that will let you keep tabs on any moles you may have, and cross check them with stock pictures of every other type of mole. Download MyMole Checker App (Free) before the sun gets strong, or before you head off on holiday, to keep a check on goings on throughout the summer, as well as upping the SPF factor of course. Be sensible now!

If you’re hitting a festival this summer, visiting a bustling city or travelling with friends, the Find My Friends App (Free) is more useful than you can imagine. Simply invite friends to register them on your app, and should you lose them for a moment, you can find them again, quick as a flash with this nifty little soft wear gadget.

Reading a review about a place is one thing, but Now App (Free) actually creates a profile of a place, venue, event you are searching for, based in Instagram, Facebook and Twitter posts about it. You get imagery and real time reviews, what better to help you plan your day?

Drinking water is more important than ever as the weather heats up. If they take time to remind people to drink water on the tube, you know it’s got to be important. WaterIn App (Free) will measure how much you’re drinking and remind you to drink more. It’s like having your personal trainer there to nag you every hour of every day. And, yes, that’s a good thing!
