I’ve never had good eyebrows. I have a gap in my left brow. The middle is missing.
The colour of my eyebrows has never matched my hair, even if my hair was its natural colour, which it hasn’t been since I was 14.
I know all about brows framing the face. I know their ultimate important. Yet I toy with them, pluck out stray, random hairs that are long or ill placed, and then I pluck more. I make a mess.
In LA I once went to Anastasia. She gave me big Cindy Crawford brows with a really waxy powder. Appalling.
I once had them threaded at Debenhams in London. They looked so thin I cried and it took several months for them to reappear and a lot of eyelash growing serum.
The place for the best brows is definitely New York City. You don’t often see a New Yorker without brows with attitude. And I have discovered a brow genius.
Her name is Houda and she works at the Angelo David Salon It’s close to Grand Central Station. So my brow couture has become a routine. A cosmopolitan at Cipriani in the station always celebrates her work.
Houda looks at your face like an artist looking at a sculpture. A few small tweaks and suddenly a world of difference.
The right eyebrow shape can make you look alive, younger, brighter, prettier. There was some filling in and some colouring and great brows were created where none existed.
If the brows are on your face never feels naked. I am the kind of person who never even goes to the supermarket without a face on, but with the Houda brows I felt dressed, able to go to dinner without even a hint of lip moisturiser.
She is one of those extraordinary artists in a city that is full of extraordinary people. She is the ultimate.
