Sometimes I wonder when my quest for the perfect mascara will end. Just when I think I’ve found one I find something else. I’ve been a big fan of Benefit’s They’re Real – it gives big glossy lashes and it has great staying power. I diverted to the Louboutin mascara – it gave elegance and length and at first, it stayed on 24 hours but then after a month it got drier and more flaky.
I remember Anjelica Huston telling me she loved the YSL Volume Effet (Shocking) mascara and she bought it in bulk because the lashes only stayed glossy for a couple of weeks. It was with all of this in mind I tried the Roller Lash. It’s been on the market a while and I’ve always resisted it because I don’t like things to be complicated. I like things to be quick – curling your lashes as well as applying mascara seemed too much for me. But I was wrong.
The Roller Lash comes in a 1950’s curler style tube. It’s pink but don’t let that put you off. At the Benefit store, I was shown the technique of the curved brush. You apply it at the base of the lash with the brush as an upside-down smile, stroke upwards to the smiling brush position and you’ve automatically done a curl.
Once you’ve had curled lashes it’s hard to go back to straight because they seem too spiky. Some people’s lashes naturally wave up. Mine do not and they never have. I’m afraid of the eyelash curler as I must have been gouged to death in a former life. But I’m not afraid of the curling brush. This mascara is also super long lasting but sometimes if I want extra effect I’ll apply a coat of They’re Real and curl with a coat of Roller Lash before it has time to set. At £20.50 it’s about a quarter of the price of the fancy Louboutin wand so a worthy investment.
