Following in the footsteps of remarkable women like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and Drew Barrymore, Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations. Watson will be working with the international organization, UN Women, to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.
Created in 2010, the task of UN Women representatives located all over the world is to help improve opportunities for women, eliminate discrimination and aid gender equality.
“Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting,” Emma Watson said in a statement.
Emma has previously been involved in promoting girls’ education in Bangladesh and Zambia. Now she will work on UN Women’s HeForShe campaign, encouraging men and boys to stand up against gender inequality faced by women and girls.

“I still have so much to learn, but as I progress I hope to bring more of my individual knowledge, experience and awareness to this role.”
Recently Emma graduated from Brown University earning a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and has appeared in films The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring and Noah. The starlet is moving on from her Hermione Granger days and also stepping out into the world of fashion from modeling for Burberry to editing for Wonderland. At Paris Fashion Week, Emma got caught up in a tangled embrace with actress Jennifer Lawrence as the two met for the first time.
