This weekend Versace unveiled the muse for their SS14 as none other than pop diva extraordinaire Lady Gaga. Months of speculation had lead up to the big announcement, which came via Twitter.
The fashion house posted ‘#Versace proudly confirms @LadyGaga as the face of SS14 campaign shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott #VersaceLovesGaga’.
Lady Gaga herself posted ‘I’m so happy to be working w/ @Versace for the new Campaign! What do you wanna wear this spring? #Donatella #famiglia’.
One of the first campaign shots to be presented to the public shows Lady Gaga reclining back, draped in her own platinum blonde hair, parted down the centre and worn smooth and straight, in more than a nod to Donatella Versace’s own style. Her lilac form fitting dress celebrates every curve of her body, a clear trait of the fashion house’s feminine style, and is embellished with the same design as her heavy pendant. The makeup look for the songstress’ new campaign is refreshingly modest, nude toned pearlised shadow perfectly complimenting a matte peach lipstick.
Lady Gaga has actively associated herself with the renowned fashion legacy for a long time now. She has been pictured with Donatella Versace on a number of occasions and her revival of the famous Liz Hurley safety pin dress caused more than a stir amongst the paparazzi as she arrived at a Versace dinner in October last year.
As if to physically present herself as the new face of Versace, Lady Gaga strutted in front of photographers at the American Music Awards 2013 this weekend, swathed in the very same lavender dress she appears in in the campaign shots, before taking her place on the back of an abstract white horse statue.
It seems the BFF relationship between Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace is set to last for a good while yet. We think it’s a match made in heaven. Diva heaven.
