Pure and precision cut at Celine, Jil Sander and Stella McCartney, crisp white cotton took on a modern minimalist aesthetic. Whilst over at Louis Vuitton, Giambattista Valli and Nicole Farhi, whites were whipped into romantic loose layers, barely-there wisps of chiffon and oversized broderie anglaise.
Hardly unchartered territory for Summer, but head-to-toe white makes for a refreshingly cool alternative to this season’s pastels, neons and pumped-up prints. Surprisingly easy to wear, so long as picnicking is not on the agenda, the trick to this monochromatic look is in ensuring fabrics are substantial, weighty and in no way skin-tight.
If full-on white-out feels a little too high-risk, particularly when combined with public transport, stick to wearing white on your upper half only. An embellished white top or lace textured t-shirt is a great summer-in-the-city option, and we particularly love this Oasis Foil Lace Tshirt £45 worn layered beneath Topshop’s Tencil Jersey Biker Jacket £45.
If you want to up the ante, pair a couple of key white pieces with the palest slate grey, dove blue or nude blush tones and complement the look with edgy accessories. Chloe’s Leather Wristlet Bag, £425, and Chan Luu’s Gold Vermeil and Leather Wrap Bracelet, £255 will add a fashion-forward accent to any outfit.
White shoes look simply sublime on tanned feet, but do not fear as these Kurt Geiger Glenda £220 are as far from the stereotypical white stiletto as footwear can get. To complete the white washed look simply lacquer toes in an equally blank-canvas varnish such as Dolce and Gabbana Nail Lacquer in True White, £18 which is more clean nude than tip-x white. Keep make up minimal and subtly bronzed.
