The Buckingham Palace area is always subject to a lot of hype. Mostly of the royal variety. But this week a building near the palace played host to fashion aristocracy John Galliano and his first collection for Maison Martin Margiela.
Anyone who was anyone was there. We’re talking Christopher Bailey, Kate Moss, Paolo Roversi, Jasper Conran, pretty much the whole of the fashion glitterati.

To say it was clever of the fashion house to stage the show in the middle of London Collections: Men is an understatement. Without much effort at all they snared the hottest fashion personalities from the various menswear FROWs and gathered them all atop little white chairs, waiting with baited breath for Galliano’s first Margiela show.

The theatrical mingled with the simplistic in the creations that sashayed down the catwalk. Tuxedos, gowns, jackets, ruffles. But the most memorable vision was Galliano himself.

Far removed from the made-up Fagin type image he used to sport, he appeared in a white lab coat style jacket, slicked back hair and a face that now owes more to an unsubtle surgeon than plain genetics. We’re undecided. About it all really.
