With Summer waning, it’s time for us to put the sundresses and sandals away and replace them with boots and warm layers. The fall and winter months hold an immeasurable place in the world of fashion and revolve around the subtle art of wearing layers without looking like a giant marshmallow and revisiting classic autumnal accessories such as chunky ankle boots to classic leather trench coats.
It’s a time for layering, silks/ corduroy textures, and warmer hues of colour such as earth/ jewel tones, gothic blacks, and reds. The fashion world has much to offer this season, so to make it easier for you, we’ve compiled five of our favourite budget-friendly Fall/Winter trends for ‘22, all of which are re-wearable and easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Keep reading on to find out which trends we’ve selected.
Knee-High Platform Boots
Made famous in the ’60s, the knee-high platform boot pays homage to the classic go-go boot. You can wear these to add instant glamour and elegance to any look, or on the other hand, you can grunge up an outfit with them. We’ll be wearing ours with shirt dresses, pleated skirts, or little black dresses. With so many pairing options, the knee-high is an excellent addition to any wardrobe and elevates a look effortlessly, without the pain, unlike their stiletto cousins!
Pleated Midi Skirts
Unlike pencil skirts that can be restrictive, a pleated midi could be just the solution for your autumn wardrobe needs. Bordering on the more ‘ladylike’ spectrum of the fashion world, the pleat is making a return for this new season, but this time they’re back with more bite. We advise pairing with slim-fit knits or blouses for a light and airy look, or show off your rebellious side and pair yours with half-tucked chunky sweaters, chains, and chunky platform boots. Chunky Knits
Knitwear marks the onset of crisp autumn days and provides a cosy middle ground until you have to start dusting off your coat. This season sweater weather is celebrated in many shapes and sizes, including cable knits, argyle, and cashmere. Trumping all of these styles, though, is the chunky, oversized type, which we recommend pairing with casual denim or over the top of a feminine mini dress for a bolder look. Scared of looking frumpy? Apply some of these tips to avoid any fashion faux pas!
Collared Dresses
This Fall/Winter, we’re paying homage to Halloween and sporting dresses with pilgrim-esque collars, made iconic by cult figure Wednesday Addams. Try to avoid overly florally garish patterns so the look doesn’t stray too far into costume territory, and pair with heeled, platform boots, fishnets, and matching knitwear for the quintessential autumnal date night look.
Faux Fur
Nothing quite compares to wearing a faux-fur or teddy-textured coat in winter, and with so many styles and prints to choose from, like fun animal prints or bright block colours, it will instantly elevate your overall ensemble this fall. We recommend pairing these pieces with a fitted dress or skirt and a pair of platform shoes.
