Everyone has a place in their home where they feel the most relaxed. Some people enjoy their tech in the lounge, some like to cook up a storm in the kitchen and others potter about in their garden. With that said, most of us will admit that the room we feel the safest in is the bedroom.
If this isn’t the case, then perhaps it is time that you made a few stylistic changes. Here are a few tips that you can use to decorate your bedroom and make it your own comfortable space.
Stick To One Colour
Your bedroom is the most personal space in your home and the decoration you choose should reflect that. It should go without saying that you probably want to wake up in a pleasant mood, and a good way to achieve this is by filling the room with things that you like.
You may have already placed some personal photos or objects around your bedroom, but what about the colour? It may benefit your mood to choose your favourite coloured paint or wallpaper, but it can help more to stick to just one of these colours.
The key to decorating a bedroom lies in simplicity. Using more than one colour or pattern for your bedroom walls may prove over-stimulating, making it harder for you to get a peaceful night’s sleep. After all, that is why we have a bedroom in the first place.
Remove Unnecessary Furniture
In order to receive a good night’s sleep you need to be able to relax. How you choose to relax is unique to you, but it is rare to find someone that likes to relax whilst feeling claustrophobic.
Having too much furniture in your place of rest can make you feel overwhelmed or cramped. Let’s not mention how difficult it would be to navigate in the dark. Try to only put furniture in your bedroom that you actually need. This furniture should include a bed, wardrobe, mirror and maybe a chest of drawers. Your make up table or armchair might look nice in the corner, but there are plenty of other places that you can stick those cumbersome things to help create space where it is needed.
Be Clever About Wardrobe Space
On the topic of cumbersome furniture, your wardrobe is one of the necessary objects that should stay in your bedroom. However, these items are usually comprised of large boxes that are difficult to move. As such, your wardrobe is likely to jut out make traversal difficult. It has nothing to do with a good night’s sleep, but you are far more likely to rest easier if you aren’t constantly stubbing your toe on the way to the bathroom.
One way to remedy this problem is by investing in built-in wardrobes. If you have the space, you can knock through a wall to create space for your clothes. A built-in wardrobe lies flush against the wall, giving you more space to move around your bedroom. What’s more, some larger built-in wardrobes can even be used as a small walk in closet. What’s not to like about that?
Thick Carpet
While the other tips provided have all been aimed toward adding space, there are some instances where clutter is good. One such instance is adding a thick carpet to your bedroom.
As humans, we can sometimes forge associations between irrelevant objects. You are far more likely to feel the warm embrace of slumber by looking at a cosy carpet than a cold, wood-panelled floor. The soft touch of thick carpet on our feet can create an association between this sensation and sleep. Plus, you are going to need to add something to reduce the echoes after removing all that unnecessary furniture.
Also, placing a rug down can produce similar effects to the carpet.
Clever Lighting
Strong lighting is useful when you are trying to get ready in the morning but highly counter-productive to a good night’s sleep. The last thing that most of us see before we close our eyes for the night is the rowdy glow of a bulb on the bedroom ceiling.
You can offset this disturbance by using one of two methods. One of these methods includes installing the right lampshade. There are some lampshades out there that are designed to darken a room, but this is useless to us when trying to get dressed in the morning.
The second, and more appropriate solution to this problem is installing a dimmer switch. With this type of lighting, you can set the light to a low and relaxing level when preparing for bed, and then put it to the max setting in the morning.
These solutions are obviously subjective to the individual person, but give some of these tips a try to improve the style in your bedroom. This style is directly linked to a good night’s sleep, and no one wants to deny themselves that.
