When a special event is coming up, once you have your outfit sorted you can starting thinking about hair and makeup options. How do you decide what look to go fort? Here are some tips from a professional makeup artist on how to do a soft glam look that will stay looking fresh all night. This look is defined by glowing skin, perfectly applied eye shadow, neat, brushed-through brows, and a neutral lip.
Turn up the volume with eyelash extensions
Even a no makeup look can look natural and glam with lovely full eyelashes. To achieve this look, you can use eyelash extensions. Lilac St, Mac, and Ardell have many lash extensions made from high-quality materials. They will lengthen and define your lashes to help you achieve the perfect glam makeup look you want.
Can you put mascara on eyelash extensions? In general you should avoid wearing mascara with lash extensions, as this can add weight and can put a strain on the natural lashes and lash glue. You can wear mascara, but you must choose one that’s oil and glycol free with widely spaced bristles, and that’s easy to remove. You can’t use waterproof or water-resistant mascara.
Prep the face using a matte primer
A primer creates a layer that acts as a base for other makeup products and helps everything last longer and go on better. Using a matte primer makes the skin look less shiny and more velvety by blurring the appearance of pores and absorbing oil. Apply using your fingers or a foundation brush for a more even finish.
Using a full-coverage foundation
Foundation evens out facial flaws and gives your skin an even tone. You might like to use a full-coverage matte foundation if you want a very glam look. A matte finish creates a velvet skin without any signs of oil or shine. Apply it with a blending brush or a sponge.
Conceal dark circles and blemishes
Use a concealer that’s the same tone as the skin. Do not apply too much under the eyes and blend well, best to add after you have applied your foundation so you don’t rub it off when you are applying your base. Applying the concealer in an upside-down triangle under each eye is a little trick that gives a bright, wide-awake look.
Use highlighter for emphasis
Use a highlighter that is one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. It attracts light and makes the skin look bright and dewy. You can apply to tops of cheekbones, brow bone and anywhere you want the light to catch your face. Apply it with your fingers to help blend the product into your skin for a softer finish.
Finish off with setting powder
A good setting powder finishes off that soft matte feel and will help your make up last longer.
Define tone and texture with eyeshadow
The trend right now is a heavy black eye-liner to really define the eyes, you can combine this with eyeshadow for the soft glam look. Add definition to the eye by softly blending out a deep brown shadow into the crease and using nude beige on the lid. You can add a pop of colour on the lid to match your outfit or apply a gold shimmer across the whole lid to really sparkle.
Brush up your brows
For a soft glam makeup look, keep your brows looking natural and full by brushing through them with a spoolie. Use an eyebrow pencil to create thin, feathery strokes like hairs to fill in any gaps. Apply an eyebrow gel to perfect the brow shape.
Don’t be over-dramatic with blush
Blush can really lift your face, chose a shade that suits you, a natural peachy pink works for many people’s skin tones. It gives the illusion of cheekbones and can define your face. Apply it to the apples of the cheek and extend upwards and outwards.
Apply liner and a nude lipstick
To complete a soft glam look, apply a natural looking nude lipstick, to make it last longer, apply a light dusting of powder before applying if you love a matte lip. A slick of nude gloss will also work well to emphasise a full lip.
Now you are ready to blow out your hair, put on those heels and have a great night out!
