GUCCI: Makeup Review

June 30, 2015

Gucci Beauty debuts their first colour collection for Spring/Summer 2015, taking inspiration from the mood, fabrics and colours of the runway show to create a beautiful colour-rich palette. It is eccentric, bold and sophisticated. The vivid hues are integral to the line, including new limited edition eye shadows too.

We got our hands on Gucci’s luxurious make up, and before I delve into how lovely and wearable these products are – first, that packaging! It is so stunning and sexy, and the embossed details, oh, they will just look amazing in your makeup bag.

Krista got a Gucci makeover today at the BATD office, and here’s what we used and why we loved it:

Golden Glow Bronzer, £39

Golden Glow Bronzer in Oriental Sienna is a neutral-toned warm bronzer shade, and it has an ever-so subtle pearl gold finish once applied. It glides on smoothly and flawlessly. It comes with a little rounded shaped brush, with a flat edge so you have the option for a soft, blended all over bronzed look, or a sharper, more defined contour. It is really lovely just applied under the cheekbones for a lift.

Sheer Blushing Powder, £37

Gucci’s Sheer Blushing Powder is a soft, ultra-finely milled to create such a smooth and sheer finish on the skin. This particular shade Spicy Petal is a natural and subtle warm tone that’ll suit most skin colours when applied. It gives a veil of colour to the cheeks and I applied it very softly to the apples, after a little of the Bronzer to give a natural depth to the face. The brush included in this lovely palette is soft and deposits the product beautifully.

Magnetic Colour Shadow Duo, £38

The Magnetic Colour Shadow Duo Fumé fuses together two gorgeous hues, carefully balancing complimentary colours to allow you to create any look. The texture is soft, allowing you to build up the pigment, with a pearlescent golden sheen, especially in the green shade in this Fumé palette. Blending out this colour (I like to do it with a soft, natural hair, tapered brush) & it is so easy as it blends into a golden sheen, making it a smooth and soft blend. It catches the light beautifully adding contour to the eyes.

Magnetic Colour Shadow Mono, £27

Gucci’s Magnetic Colour Shadow Mono debuts with a selection of 19 luxorious shades. These singular shadows are composed of iconic colours inspred by Gucci’s fashion archives and modern shades lifted from the runway shows. The formula is super pigmented, and the Iconic Black is a strong, matte black, which can be blended out to create any look. I used it with a thin brush as a soft liner along the lashes for a more impact look, but still having a soft, charcoal texture. Gives a good variation to using a liquid liner.

Audacious Colour-Intense Lipstick, £28

Audacious Colour-Intense Lipstick in Iconic Red, is a retro-inspired shade with a modern edge. It has a slight cool tone which makes your teeth super white, too. This lipstick has an innovative formula to allow for a weightless finish, but with a full coverage to saturate your lips in the best colour in one swipe. It is a creamy-matte, with great staying power.

Gucci has some gorgeous face charts and looks on the site including how-to’s and before & after transformations to give you a little inspiration.

On one of the show-stopping looks that was created for this collection: “This look is all about the sultry, unexpectedly smoky eye created from intense green and blue shadows,” says Gucci Cosmetics Artistic Director Pat McGrath. “Using Gucci Magnetic Color Duo in Agate, sweep shadow from the outer corners inward, circling in the center of the lids to accentuate them.”
