Online clothes shopping is all fun and games until you receive your package only to find that nothing fits they way you thought it might. Then we have to go through the trouble of packing up and returning our order, and of course, we loose the new outfits we were dreaming of. Thankfully, Amazon Fashion is making an effort to solve our online shopping woes with their new solution to online fitting guides.
According to descriptions of their new patent application, Amazon is developing a system to recommend sizes for shoppers. There will soon be an online database of Amazon’s products, their measurements and a 3-D model of them. Amazon will also consider what activities the products are meant for, what fabric they are made from and how they may fit or stretch.
Amazon recently acquired this patent that originally belonged to a sizing technology company called Shoefitr, Inc. Now that they have applied for the patent Amazon will need to work out how to get it up and running. In order to get this database going, Amazon must measure all the products they plan to put in the system – this means measuring all the jeans, the pants, shirts, bras, hats and headwear and handbags they sell. Although this is an enormous task, if anyone can do it, we suppose Amazon can. Until then, we’ll have to wait and reference the size charts and fitting guides available to us.
Happy online shopping, cyber friends!
