Irish singer, Imelda May, recently released her single ‘Call Me’ from her forthcoming album ‘Life Love Fresh Blood’ which will be out April 7th. The critically acclaimed singer release her beautiful video for her single last year and ever since we have been impatiently waiting to hear the rest of her beautiful songs. I saw Imelda sign some of her emotional album at Ronnie Scotts, her song lyrics and performance made me shed a little tear.
The music video premiered via W Magazine late last year. The stripped back live session was filmed in black and white with Imelda joined by a live band. May says this is her most honest album to date, revealing that in the past she would “hide things in my songs and twist them around,” but this time the singer tells it exactly how it is.
The ex Rockabilly queen has had some help from some friends in a high places this time around. The album has been produced by T Bone Burnett with special contributions from guitar hero Jeff Beck, piano maestro Jools Holland and backing musicians guitarist, Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) and Bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets).
The new music is highly praised, Bono even said: “I love the girl she used to be but I think I love even more the woman she’s become. Still mischievous and playful, still a siren, but there’s an ache in her voice now that has me with a glass at my ear to the wall of her wold where trouble has entered the room. There’s an erotic power here that’s not just feminine power. She makes truth telling an invitation to intimacy.”
We can’t wait to have a listen to the new album once it drops on 7th April but meanwhile, we’ll be watching her single on repeat.
