On Friday night we were lucky enough to make the list at the Kolchagov Barba AW17 show. The brand has been around since 2011, and continues to stun with designs that feature Swarovski crystals, hand woven lace, and other luxury fabrics. The show took place at Melia Whitehouse in Regent’s Park.
It wouldn’t be Fashion Week if things didn’t start late, but once they did we couldn’t take our eyes away. The show began with music that was somewhere between orchestra and house music. Sounds strange, but it worked perfectly with the atmosphere of the rest of the show.
Models walked to the beat of the music, first making their entrance coming down a black and gold staircase, with a beautiful chandelier above them. As they strutted towards the end of the catwalk, being awaited by a large group of photographers, we couldn’t help but ooh and ah at the gorgeous gowns and jumpsuits. Most of them dark colored, with gold and silver accents or accessories. The collection was supposed to embody the theme of the show, Black Coral. The models all wore the same hair and makeup style, slicked back hair, some with low knotted buns, smokey eyes and a merlot lip.
I agreed with the people seated around me that everything in the collection was very wearable, granted you have those kinds of occasions that call for gowns and couture. I’d describe the collection as very bold and dramatic. The heavy beats in the music and the dark colors were probably to blame. But it was also the accessories. Everything was well thought out and perfectly placed so as to keep us wanting more! Well done to the designers Svetoslav Kolchagov and Emilio Barba!
