LA SOIREE ARE ADDING THE GLITTER THIS CHRISTMAS

November 18, 2016

By Debbie Djordjevic

Tired of the same old shows at Christmas? Resisting the urge to spend an evening shouting ‘he’s behind you’? Then I would advise you book a ticket to La Soiree who have made their home in the magnificent Speigeltent in the middle of Leicester Square.

The audience is treated to a mix of acts, all unique, all at the top of their game in terms of skill and all bringing the best of cabaret to the West End. It’s part circus, part smoky Berlin nightclub circa 1930 with a nod to Vaudeville and Music Hall on the way. But this isn’t a show that feels old, each act is fresh and delightful, and judging by the response of the audience on the opening night will once again be a huge hit.

Physical displays from The English Gents who sport some awesome six packs (can you have a seven pack? – I think you can) had the audience open mouthed. There was laughter too – silly but extremely clever comedy juggling from Marc and Svetlana and the manipulation of body parts by contortionist Captain Frodo had us gasping and at times, looking away.

There’s a bit of well placed nudity, and some sexiness, this show really has it all. Don’t miss Ursula Martinez who is performing for the last time during this run – at 50 she thinks it’s time to hang up her red hanky, but what she can do with her hanky is nobody’s business, so it’s a shame.

I won’t give too much more away as I don’t want to spoil the fun. Two hours (including an interval and there is a bar in the tent) pass really quickly but you can continue your evening if you flash your wristband in the bar at the Hippodrome after the show, they will give you a drink on the house*.

Just go see La Soiree – in my opinion it’s worth every penny and they did win an Olivier gong in 2015. It’s on until January 8th in the Speigeltent at Christmas in Leicester Square and tickets are selling fast.
