London Fashion Week begins tomorrow and we cannot wait! Naturally we’re excited for the big shows (Burberry, Top Shop Unique, Mulberry, etc.) but it’s always exciting to see what the newcomers are bringing to the table….or should I say runway.
Fashion East is a London-based nonprofit that steers new designers through the craze of the fashion industry, and this week they’re giving us four new names to look out for:
Matty Bovan
Style: Color and chaos
A graduate of Central St. Martins, Bovan received 2015 LVMH Graduate prize for his womenswear collection, which followed with a stint as a Junior designer at Louis Vuitton. Since then, he has collaborated with AV Robertson on a print that was prominently used in the s/s16 Marc Jacobs collection, and has contributed to iD, Love, and Man About Town.
Mimi Wade
Style: Busy and bold
Also a graduate of Central St. Martins, Wade pushes boundaries of fashion combining things like leather and paint in the womenswear collection she’ll show at LFW. Wade is primarily inspired by her grandmother’s B-film Hollywood past, and refers to her work as “feminine cuteness mixed with aggression.”
A Sai Ta (ASAI)
Style: Tussled and torn
Ta brings grunge to another level with his ripped and layered styles. He realized his passion for designing when his sister gave him markers to draw on his shoes and t-shirt for a No-Uniform day and has been creating ever since. Ta’s womenswear was awarded second place in the L’Oreal Professionnel Talent Award, and also received a scholarship to attend Central St. Martins’ MA programme.
Supriya Lele
Style: Elegant but edgy
Lele graduated from the Royal Academy of Art, where she created looks that were inspired by her English and Indian heritage, but with a new modern spin. She creates her looks using cheap materials like plastic and juxtaposing them with luxury fabrics.
