I fell in love with Lipstick Queen’s Hello Sunshine. A proper falling in love where you feel transformed and different and slightly in awe. This is a yellow lipstick that gives your lips a pinky peach glow. The exact colour depends on the PH in your skin so this is a love affair that will go on because it has something new and different to offer with each day’s application.
Lipstick Queen also have a Frog Prince collection. The lipstick looks green but it goes on to a magical kissable pink and there’s a navy one called Hello Sailor which gives the lip a flattering blue/red tone. It’s just a lipstick but it says so much. It’s like a lipstick poem. The passion is infectious.
Lipstick Queen’s creator Poppy King – an Australian in New York is completely passionate about creating lipstick. She told me she remembers her first ever lipstick application. She was six and her mother had been visiting London and brought home an oxblood Biba lipstick to Melbourne. She remembers how it transformed her face and she also recalls “It transformed me on the inside too. I felt like a super hero but my cape was my lipstick. It gave me confidence and felt like I could take on the world.
When she was 18 she couldn’t find the lipstick she wanted in Melbourne so she decided to create her own range. Before long she’d been poached by a big cosmetics company for a huge job in New York and then she was drawn back into her first love, lipstick and she created the range Lipstick Queen.
She can talk to you for hours about the ratio of pigment, sheer and formula. She also likes to dabble in duality, having one colour as a sheer and then its matte sister and how different they are. The gorgeous thing about Hello Sunshine is how it makes your lips feel so soft and plumped and ready for anything. It will launch exclusively in Space NK May 6 £22 and nationwide June 6.
