There’s no such thing as pampering yourself too much when it’s for a worthy cause, right? We don’t think so, so we’re bringing you another five beauty brands that are doing their part to give back to charities in their communities and beyond! If you missed the first five, check them out here.
Skincare and beauty brand Philosophy recently launched the Hope & Grace Initiative, an effort to raise awareness and improve treatment for some of the 450 million people worldwide who suffer from mental illness. As part of the initiative, 1% of sales of all Philosophy products will go towards various mental health organizations including Bring Change 2 Mind, co-founded by actress Glenn Close. In just five years, the Hope & Grace Initiative is expected to raise more than £5 million for the cause, marking the first time a company has made a brand-wide commitment to mental health. The Hope & Grace Initiative currently runs on proceeds from online purchases, but will expand to in-store and television sales by January 2015.
It’s no secret that The Body Shop prides itself on giving back. They support fair trade, crusade against animal testing and raise money for dozens of charity events and causes every year. In fact, the company founded their own charity, The Body Shop Foundation, in 1989, which has since donated £21 million to human rights, environmental conservation and animal protection issues. Check out one of the brand’s specific charity products like Foundation Lip Butter – 75% of the sales from the little pots of dragon fruit-flavored lip butter go to the charities WeStopHate, Big Cat Rescue and Sprout Up. Foundation Lip Butter is available at thebodyshop.co.uk for £4.
Since it’s founding in 1851, venerable skin care company Kiehl’s has supported multiple charitable causes including environmental conservation, AIDS research, and community outreach programs for children. In the U.K., Kiehl’s has partnered with AIDS charity Terrance Higgins Trust, and the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. You can help out Kiehl’s mission by buying one of their charity-specific products, like the Celebrate Britain Creme de Corps. Proceeds from the sale of these specially-designed bottles of rich body moisturizer go to SportsAid, a charity that supports young athletes. Check out the Celebrate Britain Creme de Corps and other Kiehl’s products at kiehls.co.uk.
Founded by yoga teacher Elena Bower, fragrance company Givescent was created with two goals in mind: bottle intoxicating scents inspired by Italian summers, and help empower women around the world with the profits. Proceeds from the sales of each of Givescent’s three signature scents – Signature, Green or Orange – go to charity. The company supports Every Mother Counts, a charity that aims to decrease the amount of preventable deaths that occur due to pregnancy and childbirth complications, as well as Women for Women International, which supports female survivors of war by giving them job skills training and business education. To support Givescent’s mission, pick up one of their roller ball fragrances from givescent.com.
As if you needed a reason to love Aveda even more, the beauty giant is committed to supporting global and local charities dedicated to animal welfare, breast cancer awareness and global clean water initiatives. Help them support their mission by buying one of their charity products, like the limited edition Light the Way candle, which is made with organic essential oils and comes in a glass jar made from recycled bottles. 100% of the profits from these £16 candles goes towards the Global Greengrants Fund, which helps fund clean water-related projects around the world.
