Calling all M.A.C Cosmetics fans and avid collectors… This is not one to miss.
Oh, you can always count on M.A.C for their ingenious collaborations.. And if you haven’t laid eyes on this already, prepare to be exited for this one.
M.A.C have teamed up with one of the biggest names in China’s fashion scene, Guo Pei. The Beijing-based designer is known for her extravagant and intricate couture garments, and has been in fashion design for 26 years.
Teaming up with the Chinese couturier, M.A.C present a collection of golden jewelled-tones and neutral colours sprinkled with deep blue-graphite, inspired by blossoming flowers and and beautiful gardens. And that packaging absolutely deserves a special mention – with each product with a vintage-esque feel and encased in an exotic floral-illustrated fabric, the M.A.C x Guo Pei collection is certainly one to cherish and show off on your vanity table.
So the inspiration behind this stunning collection blossoms from the power of nature;
“There is a Chinese saying, ‘There is a kingdom in a flower; a wisdom in a leaf,'” Guo Pei explains of her influences. “I always find the power of nature fascinating, especially when the flowers are blossoming. The idea inspired the creative process of the dresses for MAC. I finished my preliminary sketch in my study on one quiet afternoon without a break. However, while the drawings were beautiful, they lacked completeness. Then one day, my daughter showed me a set of extraordinarily beautiful pictures of the Milky Way. The intoxicating colors of the universe sparked a power of life in my soul… I captured the energy and created eight dresses for MAC – ‘Garden of Soul’. Based upon the eight dresses, we developed this beautiful makeup collection.”
To create the campaign images, eight intricately made dresses were shipped in wooden crates to London, where they were shot by Norwegian Fashion Phoographer Sølve Sundsbø. “The visual we created is lyrical and expresses the spirit of elegance and sophistication, with a flirty-ness and a bit of humor,” says James Gager, Creative Director of M.A.C Cosmetics. “The image captures her creations in a very magical way.”
You might remember the designer’s name from Rihanna’s yellow met gala dress everyone talked about (many memes were made). Well, she needs a lot more credit, as that extravagant dress actually took two years to make – by hand! So let’s change your visual perception of this amazing couture designer..
