There is nothing too fancy or different about the design, yet company Naja’s new product line is being called revolutionary. Why? For the first time, an entire range of seven shades of “nude” are being released to fit every type of skin tone. For a long time “nude” was limited to just one shade, and only applied to a fraction of women. Now, there is an entire, affordable range to choose from.
The campaign was just released yesterday, and already the hashtag “Nude For All” trended on Twitter as thankful women voiced their appreciation by seeing their skin colour represented in the line.
The idea first popped into CEO Catalina Girald’s head after watching the 2012 olympics and noticing the “nude tape” wrapped on ankles that obviously did not match the athlete’s skin type. Since then, it has been a long journey for Girald’s vision to come true. With the help of Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as a confident spokesperson, it has helped “Nude For All” extend well beyond just a lingerie line.
At first, the company only included five shades, however, Naja decided to incorporate two of the “outliers” of very light to very dark because “these were the women that could never find anything in their colours, and so we wanted to make sure they could.”
As for the campaign, it was very important that the models weren’t sexualized, but instead confident and happy. For each of the models chosen, it was not based on looks, but rather what they have accomplished in life. Some of the women include a soloist in a top ballet company, a Harvard Business school student, a software engineer, and a Muslim woman who stood up to her family and refused to have an arranged marriage.
CEO Girald teased the company has future “secret plans” which hints to us that this company has quite the exciting future ahead of themselves.
