It’s National Pina Colada Day Today!

As we are excited for the weekend and celebrating all things Pina Colada-y on this fine sunny Friday – we wanted to share some lovely pina colada history, inspired cocktails, and drinks available for you to enjoy ahead of the weekend (which is forecast to be sunny in London..horray!).

The original Pina Colada recipe was created at the Hilton Puerto Rico hotel, in the Caribbean (see above) by bartender Ramon “Monchito” Marrero in 1954! The famous Pina Colada is now the official drink of Puerto Rico.
This drink was actually created at was the said hotel – while Ramon bartended, and continued to serve at the hotel for 35 years. He has left quite a legacy, as the Piña Colada – the world famous creamy combination of coconut, pineapple and rum – is now the official drink of Puerto Rico. Cheers!
Here’s a Classic Pina Colada Recipe for those of you who like to create your cocktails from scratch;
- 120ml pineapple juice
- 60ml white rum
- 60ml coconut cream
- wedge of pineapple, to garnish (optional)
Method:
Pulse all the ingredients along with a handful of ice in a blender until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish as you like.
