Narcos is a Netflix original series which was released on the online streaming site at the end of last month.
Based on a true story, acclaimed Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, stars as drug lord Pablo Escobar alongside DEA agents Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Pedro Pascal (Javier Peña).
Set in Colombia, Pablo Escobar started building his drug empire in the 7o’s and 80’s. He became known as ‘The King of Cocaine’ and is regarded as the wealthiest criminal in history, reportedly accumulating a net worth of US$3 billion.
The series itself shows the rise and fall of Escobar and his drug empire, the Medellín Cartel. We see how Escobar single-handed controlled cocaine, one of the world’s most valuable commodities, through bribing and killing people, in addition to political control as he tries to become leader of Colombia.
