We meet an aged and almost totally retired Sherlock Holmes (Ian McKellan) living out of London with a housekeeper, played by Laura Linney and her smart young son, played by the very bright young talent Milo Parker. The young boy becomes his sidekick and they tend to bees and keep the spirit of Sherlock Holmes alive by trying to solve the mystery that troubles Holmes of his last ever case. The film is beautifully shot, mostly in the countryside and is set in 1947 when Mr Holmes is frustrated by losing his memory in his 90’s. Ian McKellan is fantastic in the role, as he naturally would be, he is cantankerous, charming, grumpy and a delight to watch with the young Milo. It’s a lovely film and you don’t need to be a lover of any of the previous Sherlock films to just sit back and enjoy, see the trailer here for a taste of what’s in store.
Mr Holmes hits UK cinemas on the 19th June.
