New York Fashion Week 2014 is well underway, and we’ve rounded up the highlights so far for you right here on Beauty And The Dirt. From celebrity appearances to the newest trends spotted on the runway and on the streets, New York Fashion Week has been an exciting whirlwind over the weekend – and there are still more style debuts to come every day through to Thursday night!
HEADLINES AND FRONT-ROW FACES
Prabal Gurung’s show took a shocking turn when a streaker wearing a crown and a leopard-print thong crashed the runway. Models weren’t fazed by the interruption and security eventually caught the culprit. The show still proved to be a big hit with fashion editors – Derek Blasburg tweeted, “CONGRATS, @prabalgurung! Not even a sequined G-string runway crasher (no really) could distract from your splendid, dreamy collection!”

Victoria Beckham’s NYFW debut was a family affair, with husband David and their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper sitting front row. Football phenom and heartthrob David got the kids together for the cutest selfie EVER!

TRACKING THE TRENDS
Street style reflected the super-cold temperatures outside, with warm fur coats and lots of layers making the biggest statement. On the runway, we have seen lots of black and white, safari-inspired pieces, pastel coats, orange is the new black, and crop tops. Beauty trends have taken a turn toward the world of gems: jewellery-inspired makeup is everywhere; shimmering, slightly metallic and jewel-toned colors accentuated the outfits models wore. Nail art, which has become gaudy and somewhat overdone recently, took it back a notch this year and can now be seen as more subdued. Checking out the models’ manicures shows that nail art is simplistic and modern, with lighter shades of color involved.

Peter Som’s collection featured a mix of eye-catching statement pieces with elegant, simple separates. We love the navy blue ostrich-feather dress because it’s the perfect combination of subdued and wild fashions – plus, it has pockets, making it an instant winner!

Even the harsh cold weather outside couldn’t turn down the brightness from Kate Spade’s AW 2014 collection. The consistently colorful designer stayed true to her youthful brand with sapphire blue trousers, green cropped jackets, magenta and purple skirts, and tons of prints mixed in, as well.

Diane von Furstenberg celebrated the 40th anniversary of her classic wrap dresses and time in fashion The DvF runway was proof of the black-and-white print’s status as a hot trend, and the designer’s prints and pops of color made it quite an appealing collection.

Alexander Wang’s collection focused on sporty pieces that looked very cold-weather friendly and also fashionable with bright colors and fun zig-zag block patterns on coats and sweatshirts.
