New York fashion week has just ended– but the spring/summer 2017 collections still have us buzzing. Well known and loved designers took some fun risks including bright colors, bold prints and eccentric patterns. Three designers, Jeremy Scott, Christian Siriano, and Nicole Miller, stood out as favorites. We can’t wait to try something new this S/S season! Be on the lookout for updates from London fashion week, we can’t wait to see what comes next!
Jeremy Scott
A standout of the week, Jeremy Scott’s line was a fusion of retro and modern- we were so pleasantly surprised and let’s be honest we are always in love with his work. Geometric shapes, clean lines and bright colors thrilled the crowd. Bright pink and electric green were abundant throughout- and the designer wasn’t afraid to take surprising risks with graphics, prints, colors and textures.
Statement pieces like a pink sequined bodysuit (no, I’m not kidding) contrasted with more classic shapes. Nostalgic patterns (like a dress printed with red white and blue popsicles) reminded us of fond memories. The models looked fierce with mod hair and makeup, geometric handbags and bright shoes that complimented Scott’s clothing.
The show ended with looks that appeared to have just stepped off a space ship- futuristic textures and shapes that we’re not likely to forget. Though less wearable than the previous looks, we’re definitely impressed with how they cohesively blended into the rest of the show and they were of course the perfect fun finale.
Christian Siriano
Christian Siriano has been a favorite since his Project Runway success, and has never disappointed. Light, breezy designs headlined the show with lovely pieces in grey and white stripes, and pops of orange and blue rounded out the color palette.
Siriano kept silhouettes light with ruffles, thin straps and fluttering hems that will keep us dreaming of the island breeze until summer comes back around. He emphasized the wearability of his line by hiring a diverse array of models—including some plus-sized stunners.
Nicole Miller
Nicole Miller’s line included unexpected tribal prints with details like fringe and fluttery fabrics. Her prints were inspired by indigenous Panamanian fabrics, and I loved the relaxed fits and flattering silhouettes that would look great on any body type.
My favorite looks included layering pieces in leather and distressed denim. The line is so cool and relaxed, and not like anything we’ve seen before.
While we’re sad that NYFW has come to an end, these bright and bold trends will chase away our blues and keep us occupied for awhile, at least until London fashion week rolls into town!
