Opening Ceremony, the coveted New York retailer known for its high end collaborations, is set to open its latest permanent space in London.
The retailer will open a pop-up shop on Covent Garden’s King Street shortly before the Olympic Games, later moving down the street into a permanent space in fall 2012.
Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the founders of Opening Ceremony, told WWD:
“In the last 10 years since we first opened our doors on Howard Street in New York, Opening Ceremony has expanded to Los Angeles and Tokyo, but we have had our hearts set on London since the beginning. Covent Garden is an historic, global shopping destination and we’re looking forward to what Opening Ceremony will add to its exciting future.”
The announcement comes with much anticipation, as the retailer stocks many beloved brands, from Proenza Schouler to Rodarte. Opening Ceremony is known for bringing together emerging American talent with established international designers, placing an emphasis on collaboration. Designers featured under Opening Ceremony include Alexander Wang, Comme des Garcons, House of Holland, and Jean Paul Gaultier, among others.
