Out today, Away, first debuted at last year’s Edinburgh Film Festival. Starring Timothy Spall and Juno Temple, these two actors could not be any different but in the film, their characters come together and share a lot of similarities.
The film follows the story of Ria (Juno Temple) and Joseph (Timothy Spall) and how they came to cross paths. Ria had a tough childhood growing up with her mother passing away at a young age due to drug abuse, which left her fending for herself after she ran away from care. Homeless and begging for money, she meets Dex (Matt Ryan) who, at the time, seems like her knight in shining armour , though he turns out to be anything but.
Joseph is not without his daemons. His wife is slowly and painfully dying of a terminal illness and he feels helpless as he struggles to watch her wither away. His circumstances lead him into doing something he’ll never be able to forgive himself for to the point of where he has come to terms with ending his own life. But during his first failed attempt, he crosses paths with Ria who tries to talk him out of it.
They soon realise they have more in common than they may have thought and they save each other in the end, though in the most unexpected way possible.
