Penelope Cruz has been announced as the new face of Loewe and has signed a three-year deal with the luxury Spanish label. Cruz will star in Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2012 advertising campaign, which is to be photographed by duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Cruz respects the fashion house having said, “Loewe is an international brand proud of its Spanish roots and with a rich history. Its collections are made by Spanish master artisans and I have always admired their work. I feel fortunate to be a part of this project.”
Cruz is joining the ranks of the supers who have modelled for Loewe, including Gisele Bunchden, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, however this is the first time the brand has shot with an Oscar-winning actress.
However, the partnership is a natural one for the brand’s creative director, Stuart Vevers, who admits that Penelope Cruz has always been a muse of his. “Penelope’s strong, sensual beauty has long been an inspiration for me as a designer,” said Vevers. “She’s been a constant reference for my ideal of Spanish womanhood since I came to Loewe.”
