It is the time of year that sun awareness is beginning to peak again; we all know that UV protection isn’t just for summer holidays, but beauty brands are making sure you are prepped from head to toe for the coming rays of sunshine.
Being aware of sun exposure on your skin is important and making sure you are well protected is so vital to your health. But do we sometimes forget about the wellbeing of our hair in the sun?
Although a bit of sun can do some good for our hair, even lightens some blondes out there; it can also be damaging and drying to our tresses. Now getting sun protection for our hair isn’t as common as the endless choices of SPF creams we get for our bodies, but here’s where the good part comes in..

Phyto has our hair covered this summer to face just about anything; with their summer must-haves, the Phyto Plage range of oils, sprays and treatments to make sure your locks are just as looked-after as the rest of you!
This summer Phyto unveils a collectors edition of two iconic products, the Protective Sun Oil and the Protective Sun Veil. The legendary sun oil has been a bestseller since 1974, when Phyto first identified the need to defend hair against the summer holidays’ inevitable UV rays, drying winds, sea salt and chlorine. This years’ new design inspired by Phyto muse and icon Brigitte Bardot, is a gorgeous gingham print wrapped around the bottles.
protective sun oil
The Protective Sun Oil (£16) was created at the height of Bardot’s career; and the hair hero is enriched with a UV filter to protect, willow and rosemary to hydrate and olive wax to nourish the hair fibre, perfect for ultra dry and damaged hair. Castor Oil preserves radiance and shine, will help with colour fade and will keep your hair looking super healthy.
Directions: Spray onto dry or damp hair before and during sun or chlorine exposure. Re-apply after swimming.
protective sun veil
The Protective Sun Veil (£15) is a slightly more lightweight option; the non-oily veil works to protect and preserve radiance for normal to dry hair. The botanical formula shields and adds texture whilst sunflower extract protects against UV damage, white lotus hydrates and softens your locks. Sweet almond and illite butter gives that added nutrition, hydration and moisture while ensuring hair is well protected against external exaggerations such as salt and chlorine.
Directions: Spray onto dry or damp hair before and during sun exposure.
