I’ve always been a little bit obsessed with turmeric.
I remember going on an intense detox where I was super sick because of my addiction to caffeine. Withdrawal was not fun but I needed something to wake up in the morning, something to make my brain stimulated. It was around then. Four or five years ago that I discovered the turmeric shot.
It made me feel alive. It seemed to whizz the cobwebs out of my system and because there are not many places to do turmeric shots I proceeded to go through juicers by turning them orange and unusable because I had to juice a mini mountain of turmeric every morning to get me through the day, another shot to go in the freezer to get me through later on.
While I’m still loving turmeric, I wasn’t loving everything turning orange. My fingers, my nails, my clothes, my kitchen. It was about this time that turmeric lattes started popping up in healthy cafes but they were too milky for my taste and then I have a friend who is an anti-cancer campaigner who tells me she drinks a spoon of turmeric in hot water every morning. But now Pukka have come up with turmeric tea and holistic turmeric pills. I love the tea. It’s interesting. More comforting than intense but if you don’t feel like tea you can do a pill.
Turmeric has so many powers. Mostly it’s an anti- inflammatory and this really keeps your mind sharp and your body unbloated. Inflammation can cause heart disease and cancer. It can also cause Type 2 diabetes which can develop into Alzheimer’s. Yes, it was when I heard that that I began to love turmeric. It also helps to protect the body against free radicals and it improves brain function. I say this not as just something I’ve read. It’s something I know. Turmeric really does make you feel aware and sharp. A bit like caffeine but without the low. Studies have also shown that turmeric helps stop depression – whichever way you take your turmeric it’s definitely going to make you feel good and the holistic turmeric pills from Pukka are certainly the easiest and swiftest. It’s a small pill with a big effect.
