The Maids is the contemporary adaptation of Jean Genet’s masterpiece, which has not been seen in the West End for twenty years… Now it’s back and better than ever.

The Maids is an intense psychological thriller, bubbling with unique theatricality and intrigue and actually based on a true story of a woman and daughter who were violently killed by their maids. It’s a very clever, simple modern set, which leaves the focus on the actors, who are brilliant and it’s fantastic to see three strong women on stage. This story is based on the unfair dynamics of a class system, playing out fantasies and is a provocative exploration of sexuality.
Solange and Claire are two housemaids who construct elaborate s&m rituals when their mistress is away. They take turns dressing up as Madame, to insult her and play out her ‘murder’ in which they portray both sides of the power divide.

It has an amazing cast which sees double Emmy Award-winning Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black – or you may remember her best as ‘Crazy Eyes’), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) and Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey), all featuring in this explosive psycho-drama. I would love to see these actresses on stage again, their energy and performances kept you gripped throughout, even with no interval. It has famously had other great actresses in it, Cate Blanchette had brilliant reviews when she was in it. This is a brilliant casting of three talented actors and you should try to get yourself a ticket.
