Everyone knows hair stylists and colourists are something of an addiction. You find someone you love and they are your guardian angel, your therapist, your person who turns every bad hair day, good. It’s traumatic when you think you’ve lost them. Even more traumatic when you go somewhere else and the colour goes entirely wrong. You find their number and you call them with a voice breaking close to tears, my hair looks pale green, the blondes gone wrong and it hasn’t covered in the roots and then you feel relieved because they tell you all about their new salon and how they will fix everything.
So to find William Selley, I ventured into some vaults in Mayfair and there he was with his new team at Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa.
He is indeed one of the worlds most sought after colourists and with good reason, he knows how to create beautiful hair and how to transform hair that’s been badly or sadly dealt with. His list of clients are amazing, from Royalty to acting royalty – yep, Meryl Street, Helena Bonham-Carter, Claudia Schiffer, Dame Julie Andrews and Dame Gillian Lynn.
His new hair spa is lovely.
William pretended not to notice how awful my hair was, he just dealt with it. Not only is his work vigilant, precise, elegant, he has the gift of the eye. The eye that makes dull blonde into ravishingly gold tinged. The colour was genius and afterwards I was styled by Luca, who’s spent his life studying hair. We talked about the anthropology of hair, the psychology of hair – all things that fascinate me.
The Rossano Ferretti products feel wonderful in the hair and have their own genius. Rossano Ferretti have an empire of salons, largely in chic places, their products smell, feel and are very natural. The volumising spray wasn’t sticky or heavy yet it was powerful. I’ve yet to try something called ‘natural hair movement enhancer’ sounds like a disco in a bottle for hair. I’m looking forward to having my movement enhanced and as ever looking forward to William who always makes my hair better and therefore makes me feel better. Addicted? Yes but one that’s so good for you!
