After the sell-out success that was Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we were unsure as to who The Met could possibly choose to follow such an act. And then news of Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations came to the fore, and we just knew that if anyone could follow McQueen, Miuccia Prada could, and just to prove it, rumour has it that the exhibition which launches May 9th is already sold out!
The exhibition – which is based on 1930’s Vanity Fair ‘Impossible Interviews’ – showcases iconic ensembles from the Italian designers, alongside Baz Luhrmann-directed videos of simulated conversations between Shciaparelli and Prada. It focuses on how both women, set apart by differing eras, explored and executed strikingly similar themes of style and taste, using a range of unconventional textiles, colours, prints and fantastical design.
Truly unmissable.
Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, runs May 10- August 19, 2012, The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
