The perfume hall of Bloomingdales New York smelt entirely of Eau Tropicale (£63.50), the new Sisley scent. It is designed to make you feel like you are in a tropical rainforest after a rain storm.
It is comprised of the scent of passion flowers and hibiscus with notes of ginger and bergamot. When you wear it you can smell more tuberose, making it fresher and lighter.
Scent works through the synapses and takes you back to a time and a moment. Walking into Bloomingdales, New York with my mother on our first trip together for many, many years makes L’Eau Tropicale evoke that moment.
My mother doesn’t walk very well these days and she thought her shopping days were over. Eau Tropicale tells me otherwise. She tried all the different scents on offer, she had a makeover, she bought a necklace, she went upstairs and bought a black DKNY skirt. For me this scent will always come with the emotion of joy.
While in the Sisley moment I decided to try their new body cream Cellulinov (£142.00), an intensive anti-cellulite body firming cream. It works to erase dimples and orange peel textures and reshape the silhouette to make skin visibly firmer and softer. I was of course sceptical that a cream could be so clever.
As soon as you put it on your problem areas you feel a slight burning sensation as if the skin cells are doing their own workout. The Sisley laboratories explain they drew inspiration from the latest slimming studies and discovered the properties of a powerful plant based active ingredient – longan seed extra – which seems to act on the fat cells by putting them on a diet in that it restricts nutrition to the fat cells as well as restricting growth. Cellulinov also boosts the synthesis of collagen to make the skin less slack.
I very much like how it feels when you put it on. Sisley recommends you put it on twice a day and massage with firm upwards strokes. It claims after four weeks dimples are smoothed and reduced in size by 30 per cent.
I think they have to say it takes four weeks to manage expectations. I have been using it just over a week and I can see the difference. It also seems to help reduce water retention.
It smells divinely fresh and leaves your skin feeling as though it has had a workout. A cream of genius.
