For me Afternoon Tea has always been the best meal of the day. Cakes, sweetness, indulgence; it is like going to a matinee. The Into The Woods Tea at Sketch was exactly like that. Theatrical, jolly, delicious.
I wondered if Sketch had painted a special woodland room for the occasion. They say the downstairs is always like this.
The Into The Woods soundtrack sang to us. Sondheim is always good at uplifting us and filling us with nostalgia at the same time. The chandelier seemed to be made of a forest and the green walls were painted with flowers and branches. We sat in bamboo rocking chairs. I sipped a tea made of whole rose buds, which was like drinking rose perfume; scented and delicious.
We got cucumber sandwiches with ricotta and mozzarella Panini that came wrapped in a tiny letter with a green bow. And egg mayonnaise with quail egg and caviar. We got scones that were as fluffy and weightless as clouds with a fig marmalade that was beyond compare. And we got cakes.
The best moment is choosing a cake from the three tiered cake plate. I found the Earl Grey macaroon. It was quite wonderful.
There was also a little Red Riding Hood cake, a rhubarb and raspberry cheesecake and a multi layered chocolate mint cake. As we rocked our way through it we felt very full of sweet things and very indulged. The perfect mood for Disney`s Into The Woods.
