WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH PINK? JOIN THE DEBATE

May 6, 2015

Is pink still the colour most associated with girls and if so is it a bad thing? When pink is used to sell toys to little girls people say it’s a tool of social conditioning. If it’s used to indicate female friendliness (how can we forget Labour’s pink battle bus) it’s accused of being patronising. Should we keep our rose-tinted specs on when it comes to the pink effect or should we chuck them in the Partiarchy Dumper?

These are just some of the questions being debated at the 11th edition of The House of St Barnabas’ on-going public talks series ‘37 Things You Need To Know About Modern Britain‘. Curated in partnership with cultural consultancy BUG, whose members include writers from the likes of The Face, Arena, The Observer, Sunday Times, Vogue and Wired, the debate panel includes Jo Elvin (editor of Glamour magazine), journalist and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer, fashion editor of The Independent Alexander Fury and chair Ekow Eshun.
