Cycling and spinning is a concept that has taken the world of fitness by storm over the past few years. You would be hard pressed to find a gym that doesn’t offer a spinning class. One of the biggest companies geared at this form of exercise in the US is SoulCycle, set up and first opened by Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice in 2006. They gave New York their first boutique cycling studio, and since then, they haven’t looked back.
Their classes offer charming and enthusiastic instructors, intricately thought out playlists for each class, motivational lighting and specially designed bikes. Now between 5,000 and 6,000 people a day attend classes at the 24 cycling boutiques the fitness empire currently boasts. The next move seems to be across the pond, as word has it that Soul Cycle are in the process of eyeing up a potential location in London.
Celebrity fans of the concept include the likes of Jonah Hill, Lenah Dunham and Lady Gaga as well as the Victoria Secrets Angels who participate annually in the annual Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Cycle to raise money. Last year the event benefited Pelotonia Cancer Research.
We’ll be keeping our ears out for any news on SoulCycle’s UK arrival, but until then you can sample spinning classes at London’s Boom Cycle, a popular spinning studio currently based in Shoreditch, who are set to open a studio in Holborn later this month. To find out more visit their website here.
