SPRING CLEAN YOUR WARDROBE: JACKETS

March 30, 2016

By Alyssa Boddicker

Spring is the time of weird weather. April showers, May flowers, the whole lot has us confused when it comes to what to wear. We decided to put together an edit of our favorite new jacket trends that cover just about any scenario that spring may give you.

You The Bomb

Light Before Dark Bomber Jacket (£59), Zara Khaki Padded Bomber Jacket (£39.99), Urban Renewal Vintage Wool Jacket (£56), Mango Contrast Trims Bomber (£49.99).

Have an explosive look with these bomber style jackets. Bomber jackets are an ideal transition piece for any wardrobe because they’re heavy enough to be practical but versatile enough to be paired with spring clothing. Trendsetters like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, and Rihanna have brought streetwear to the mainstream with bomber jackets at the forefront. Now we think it’s time to try the trend ourselves. The classic black bomber jacket can easily become your wardrobe staple, and we like this crisp one with a bit of camel trim from Mango. Want more of a refined style of bomber jacket? Look no further than this sleek navy jacket from Light Before Dark. If you still want to keep your spring closet full of pastels, Urban Renewal has a sporty baby pink bomber jacket that will be right up your street. Our favorite style, however, has to be this amazing khaki bomber jacket with black detailing from Zara. We think this piece can be paired with just about anything while still adding a stylish streetwear flare, our ideal. No matter which way you style it, whether it’s boyish or classic, we can assure that you’ll be looking bomb with this jacket style.

Not Your Boyfriend’s Blazer

Supertrash Jomen Sharp Boyfriend Blazer (£120), Laveer Boyfriend Blazer (£132.21), Missguided Boyfriend Tailored Suit Blazer (£36), Topshop Herringbone Blazer (£39).

Boyfriend blazers are the ideal spring jacket staple for multiple reasons. Not only are does the boxy shape allows you to play with proportions, but it also hides those extra winter curves that you haven’t quite burned off yet. This style also is able to be dressed up or down for any situation, be it a dressy event, work day, or even just street shopping. If you are looking for a dressed up option, a crisp white blazer from Supertrash would be perfect with crisp black or even patterned pants and some double strap heels. Two lovely work options are this long check boyfriend blazer from Laveer, or a warm and flowing camel tailored suit jacket from Missguided. Going for a springtime shop at a market? Topshop has an amazing herringbone blazer with a bit more weight for the colder London days, we love!

Let It Rain

Stutterheim Stockholm Red Raincoat (£200), Stutterheim Dogtooth Big Black and White Coat (£210), Madewell Hooded Fielder Anorak Jacket (£91.17), All Saints Aike Yin Mac Coat (£278).

In London, it’s almost irresponsible not to have a rain coat, so why not go the stylish route this spring and step up your rain jackets. If you want to stand out of the crowd and brighten up everyone’s groggy day, this bright red raincoat from Stutterheim is perfect for you. Another Stutterheim favorite for all you pattern lovers out there is a classy black and white houndstooth coat, complete with a glossy finish to keep the rain away and yourself shiny and new. Want a darker option? This navy anorak from Madewell is casual and tomboy cool, a big contrast to many spring trends, and even has a surprise inside with a striped interior. The ultimate rain jacket for us though is this gorgeous cream trench coat from All Saints. Sleek, stylish, cool, and utterly versatile, this trench goes with just about everything and makes it fresh, a task every rain coat should aspire to do.

Blue Jean Baby

Madewell Oversized Jean Jacket (£99.79), A$AP Rocky for Guess Jeans Reversible Parka (£145), Acne Studios Tag Vintage Denim Jacket (£290), Madewell Oversized Jean Jacket in White (£115.38).

Everyone’s favorite 90’s trend is back in a big way, but with a modern twist. Coming in just about every style, the denim jacket is the go-to jacket this spring. Compatible with just about every color in the rainbow, this light, crisp style is the perfect way to transition any outfit into spring. If you’re going for the classic 90’s look, we recommend the denim experts from Acne Studios to hook you up with a medium wash Tag Vintage jacket. Want a double whammy of denim? We are obsessed with A$AP Rocky‘s limited edition collection for Guess Jeans, especially this amazing reversible denim parka with white and light wash stripes on one side and a light medium wash on the other. Another huge (pun intended) trend with denim jackets is the oversized jean jacket. Our favorite is from Madewell, available in both medium and white washes. White denim is the ultimate proclamation that spring has sprung, so why not step into the season with a white-hot jacket?

Jackets are an essential part of everyone’s spring wardrobe, and we hope these fun and fresh styles will give you some inspiration as to how to brighten up your closet with spring’s latest trends. As shown by one of our favorite rom com classics Miss Congeniality when describing spring weather, “It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold, all you need is a light jacket”.
