Stella McCartney has announced that she will be creating a fashion item to raise both awareness and funds for War Child. The official announcement came at the Global Summit To End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London, which was hosted by Angelina Jolie and William Hague.
She will be part of the latest project called Draw Me To Safety. Draw Me To Safety will involve young people from ages 8 to 15 both in the UK and in countries affected by conflict around the world. They will be asked to draw and design their own pieces of art to reflect or answer the question ‘What makes you feel safe?’.
Stella McCartney will create her soon to be iconic fashion piece based on the designs the children create. All profits will go straight to War Child.
Of her involvement with War Child, Stella says ‘This project is about young people standing with children affected by conflict. Children see the world with clarity and honesty. War Child UK and I are excited to share their insights through art that will raise awareness and encourage the world to do more to protect children from war’.
The project clearly appealed to Angelina Jolie who commented that ‘I hope that this campaign will bring [the children’s] world closer to us aoo, and that many people will feel inspired protect vulnerable children living in conflict zones’.
