Exploring places to visit in the UK has never been more popular and you don’t need to travel very far to find a lovely boutique hotel, a beach resort or holiday park around the country. Whether it’s a family holiday, a mini break without the kids or a relaxing spa holiday with your friends you have so many top spots to pick from.
The coast along the West Country is one of our favourite places to visit, here’s why we love it so much.
Dorset is often the first real taste of the West Country for many, and it boasts the most spectacular coastline. These stunning beaches are actually part of a World Heritage Site, with its incredible geology the Jurassic Coast is just part of the 630-mile journey through Dorset. Taking in National-Trust-owned sands at Studland Bay, reachable by ferry from Sandbanks, now home to the rich and famous. At the other end of Dorset’s coast lies picturesque Lyme Regis, known for its fossils and that famous Cobb in the harbour. Make sure you sample local fish & chips on the beach and locally made ice-cream with added clotted cream before you head back home to the gym. For more a bit more life you can visit the lively resort of Weymouth, along with smaller resorts like Burton Bradstock and West Bay, and the long pebble strand of Chesil Beach, which stretches between the two.
Further along that coast in Cornwall is the small fishing port of Padstow perched on the broad and beautiful Camel Estuary, close to fantastic beaches and beautiful countryside, the picturesque village is home to a small active harbour. These days so many people are going to Padstow since TV chef Rick Stein opened his Seafood Restaurant there back in 1975. Not only can you sample Rick Stein’s food you can attend a cooking class with him too. Padstow has become one of the country’s best foodie destinations, with any number of places to sample great local produce. Book your restaurants and any classes ahead as this is a really popular holiday destination.
